Course Modification Project

Hard work pays off for Stonehenge Disc golf club volunteers.

The last 6 months has seen the clubs members volunteering to help improve the course in Amesbury. The first phase of the project was completed last Sunday & saw the work on the existing site come to an end. The second phase which includes the course extension should be completed in mid April, just before the first tournament of the year where the course will be officially opened.

The plan was started in early 2024 when the possibility of extending the course  was proposed during the clubs committee meeting. Extra land just behind the Stockport Avenue was pencilled in as the ideal location. This would allow the club to expand the Council run course. The intention was to bring the course to a standard where everyone from families to seasoned players would enjoy playing.

In September 2024 Amesbury Town Council approved the plans. The club then received a grant from PDGA Europe as well as using club money to allow the project to happen. Once the Clubs October tournament was out of the way, the members started work. Amesbury Town council helped by organising the initial clearance / topping of the site.

The video above shows exactly how much work has gone into the project as well as how much help was received.

“its been amazing to see so many members travelling from near and far just to help out. Its been especially great to see literally every Junior member mucking in to help out.” “this project has been a great success and we hope that everyone who comes and plays the course or the locals who just walk here enjoy it. It would not have been possible without such a great relationship with the Town Council, PDGA Europe & Wiltshire Council Community Grants.”
