The weather gods certainly seem to be looking down on Stonehenge disc golf club favourably. Picking yet another sunny and warm day for their first tournament of the year. The club continues to build on its success following last years tournaments by expanding the event & getting it PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) sanctioned.
50 players signed up to take on the Amesbury course over three 18 hole rounds. A Mix of Pro and amateur players from around the UK & abroad enjoyed the Stonehenge clubs hospitality as well as some challenging disc golf.
Craig Pettitt (Andover) won the Mixed Pro division. Other winners Included Paul Chick MA40 (Devizes), Andrew Hurden MA1 (Swindon), Frank Beckett MA3 (Bournemouth), Greg Terry MA4 (Didcot) & Amesbury’s own Sara Cosh FA3 & Will B MJ15.
The Tournament director Ben Ward said that “we love seeing people out on the course in general but to see so many competitors & spectators enjoying the tournament is amazing. Especially those who just stopped by to see what was going on and ended up having a try.
The club seems to be getting a reputation for hosting extremely social & friendly events. This hopefully will draw in even more competitors”. He also praised the club members “The course was looking great this weekend mostly down the extensive efforts put in by the club members who have been litter picking, tidying, strimming etc for the last few weeks.”
The clubs next sanctioned event is in October but their weekly casual event at 10am every Sunday is open to all. The Amesbury Town Council course is free to play.
